Professor Achim Menges

Professor Achim Menges, born 1975, is a registered architect and professor at the University of Stuttgart, where he is the founding director of the Institute for Computational Design and Construction since 2008. He has also been Visiting Professor in Architecture at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design from 2009 to 2015.

He graduated with honors from the AA School of Architecture in London where he subsequently taught as Studio Master of the Emergent Technologies and Design Graduate Program from 2002 to 2009, as visiting professor from 2009 to 2012 and as Unit Master of Diploma Unit 4 from 2003 to 2006. From 2005 to 2008 he was Professor for Form Generation and Materialisation at the HfG Offenbach University for Art and Design in Germany. In addition he has held visiting professorships in Europe and the United States.

Achim Menges (b. 1975) is a contemporary architect and professor whose research focuses on the development of design processes at the intersection of biomimetic engineering, parametric design, evolutionary computation, and computer-aided manufacturing. His work is based on an interdisciplinary approach in collaboration with structural engineers, computer scientists, material scientists, and biologists.

After studying at the Technical University of Darmstadt in Germany, Menges graduated with honors in 2002 from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, where he subsequently taught as Studio Master of the Emergent Technologies and Design Graduate Program from 2002 to 2009, as Unit Master of Diploma Unit 4 from 2003 to 2006, and as a visiting professor from 2009 to 2012. Achim Menges (* 1975 in Mannheim) ist ein deutscher Architekt und Hochschullehrer, der das Institut für Computerbasiertes Entwerfen und Baufertigung an der Universität Stuttgart leitet.

Leben

Menges studierte Architektur an der Technischen Universität Darmstadt und bei der Architectural Association in London. Anschließend war er Unit Master an der Diploma School und Studio Master im Emergent Technologies and Design Graduate Programme bei der Architectural Association. Nach einer Professur an der HfG Offenbach wurde er 2008 an die Universität Stuttgart berufen, wo er das Institut für Computerbasiertes Entwerfen und Baufertigung (ICD) gründete.[1] Von 2009 bis 2015 war er zudem Gastprofessor an der Harvard Graduate School of Design. Seit 2017 ist Achim Menges Prodekan für Forschung an der Fakultät Architektur und Stadtplanung und seit 2019 Sprecher des DFG-Exzellenzclusters EXC 2120 Integrative Computational Design and Construction for Architecture (IntCDC).[2]
