Professor Menachem Klein is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Political Science at Bar-Ilan University, Israel. Dr. Klein studied Middle East and Islamic Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and in 1992-3 and 2001-2 was a fellow at St. Antony's College, Oxford University. In 2006 he was a visiting professor in MIT, and in 2010 the Fernand Braudel Senior Fellow in the European University Institute, Florence.

In 2000 Dr. Klein was an adviser for Jerusalem Affairs and Israel-PLO Final Status Talks to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Shlomo Ben-Ami, and a member of advisory team operating in the office of Prime Minister Ehud Barak. Dr. Klein is active in many unofficial negotiations with Palestinian counterparts, and in October 2003 Dr. Klein signed together with prominent Israeli and Palestinian negotiators the Geneva Agreement - a detailed proposal for a comprehensive Israeli-Palestinian peace accord.

In the following pages, you will find narrative stories about a Woman PeaceMaker, along with additional information to provide a deep understanding of a contemporary conflict and one person’s journey within it. These complementary components include a brief biography of the peacemaker, a historical summary of the conflict, a timeline integrating political developments in the country with personal history of the peacemaker, a question-and-answer transcript of select interviews, and a table of best practices in peacebuilding as demonstrated and reflected on by the peacemaker during her time at the Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice.

Galia Golan of Israel knows well the subjects of Israeli-Palestinian politics. She is a professor emerita who lectures internationally and is a recognized expert in international affairs and foreign policy. Biography of Galia Golan 
Galia founded several peace organizations including joint Israeli-Palestinian women’s groups, and acted to mobilize the unprecedented demonstration of 400,000 Israelis during the war with Lebanon. In 1995 Golan was on stage at the peace rally at which former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated.

The interview takes place at the Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies at the University of San Diego while Galia was in residence as a Women PeaceMaker in the Institute for Peace and Justice (IPJ).
