Biography

Instead of acting, Canadian-born Sonya Salomaa originally intended to have a career in forestry, attending the University of Northern British Columbia, but caught the acting bug the summer before her final year. Since her change of heart, she has become an accomplished actress in both film and television. Salomaa is perhaps best known for her roles as May Kandinski from 2005 to 2006 on "The Collector" and as Laura Nelson on "The Guard" from 2008 to 2009, both Canadian television series. "The Collector" is about a man who pledges his soul to the devil for love, serving as a collector of other souls for eternity. She was awarded two Leo Awards for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her work on the series. "The Guard" follows the daily lives and rescues of members of the coast guard. Her first major film role came in 2003 with the action movie "Firefight" as Rachel. Sonya Salomaa (born 1974) is a Canadian actress, known for her performances in The Collector and Durham County.

Early life

She was born in Sudbury, Ontario. Salomaa grew up in Prince George, British Columbia and attended the University of Northern British Columbia to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Forestry. In her last summer break, she went to Victoria to sing and play the guitar. While in Victoria she became interested in acting.[2]

Career

Salomaa, a Finnish Canadian, first appeared on screen in 2000. In 2005 she took over the role of Maya Kandinski from Carly Pope in the Canadian supernatural drama series, The Collector.
