Francis Chan (Chinese: 陳恩藩; born August 31, 1967)[1] is an American Protestant author, teacher, and preacher. He is the former teaching pastor of the nondenominational Cornerstone Community Church, an Evangelical church in Simi Valley, California founded by Chan in 1994.[3] He also founded Eternity Bible College in 2004, and served as its early chancellor until 2010.[4][5]

Chan has been a board member of several Christian and social justice organizations, including Children's Hunger Fund and Gospel for Asia.[6] He has authored and co-authored numerous books including Crazy Love, a New York Times bestseller.[7] Chan has also served as an ambassador for Care for Children.[8]

Francis Chan knows something about asceticism most people don't: Less for me means more for others.

Chan, the founding pastor of Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, California, gave away all the royalties to his first bestselling book, Crazy Love, to the Isaiah 58 Fund, a nonprofit that helps the poor and victims of human trafficking.

When Chan and his wife Lisa started Cornerstone in 1994, his salary was $36,000 a year, and he kept it at that figure until he voluntarily left the church in 2010. Chan's decision to move on confounded two prominent pastors, Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church in Seattle, Washington, and Joshua Harris, of Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Francis Chan needs no introduction. Known as the author of numerous best-selling books, including Crazy Love and Forgotten God, his invitations to deep, committed Christian life have inspired millions of readers.

But, of course, Chan is a pastor at heart. In 1994, he and his wife Lisa began a church in their living room that would eventually grow into Cornerstone Church, one of the largest churches in California’s Ventura County. The success of the rapidly growing church and of Chan’s wider writing and speaking ministry made the next chapter of his life raise a few eyebrows: In 2010, Chan announced that he was resigning from Cornerstone after 16 years of ministry.
