After becoming a house name in urban Kenya in the 90s, Mercy Myra moved to the United States seeking green pastures. And there, she married Kenyan rapper Attitude whom she later divorced after a painful break up.

Mercy was encouraged from an early age to sing in the church choir and during family gatherings.

“I come from a talented family of singers and musicians, and I never thought being talented in music was a gift. I thought everyone could sing. I found out later that it was a gift and decided to pursue music as a career,” she says.

Mercy made her entry into the local music industry in 1994 when she joined the music group the Kalabash Band. After four years of being part of a band, Mercy left to make a go at a solo career.

Myra Taylor (February 24, 1917 – December 9, 2011) was an American jazz singer and songwriter. She began performing as a teenager and continued into her nineties.

Biography

Early life

Myra Jardine Render,[1] later Taylor, was born in Bonner Springs, Kansas, but her family moved to Kansas City, Missouri's historic 18th and Vine area when she was a child.[2] Working as a housekeeper at age 14, she began dancing at the Sunset and Reno clubs on 12th street.[3] Being underage, she entered some clubs by sneaking in through a rear window [4] and eventually attracted attention singing.

Taylor appeared as the character Pearl in three episodes of the US television program The Jeffersons - The Arrival (Part 1) and The Arrival (Part 2)[5] in 1980 and Men of the Cloth in 1982

"Recording my first album is a dream come true," says 15-year-old MYRA. Her debut album from Buena Vista Records was released on June 26, 2001. The pop label began laying the groundwork for the release by sending MYRA on the road as opening act for Jive Records star Aaron Carter in February. She's been invited back to tour again with Aaron Carter on his Nickelodeon sponsored tour. Additionally, her version of the Motown classic "Dancing in the Street" is the end-title for the animated feature "Recess: School's Out."

MYRA was raised in California. Her parents are both from Mexico and her love of Latin music is reflected in several of the album's key tracks. "I grew up listening to all kinds of music," explains MYRA. "From rock to R&B ... salsa to mariachi, I just love different flavors and rhythms. Mostly though, I love singers like Mariah, Celine, and Whitney. They're my girls! I have my own style, but they're so inspiring. I hope to do some of the things they've done with their music."
