Sarita choudhury daughter age

Years before Sarita Choudhury was playing Seema Patel — the glamorous real estate agent who sips cosmos in fabulous clothes with Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessia Parker) on “And Just Like That … ” — she was a broke actor living in London who didn’t like her hair.

“My hair is so thick and I always looked so fresh and in my early 20s I hated that! That was not the look I was going for. I wanted to look like an intellectual,” the 55-year-old Indian British actor told the Chicago Tribune in an interview published Tuesday.

“And at that age, I wanted to look like a French movie star, I didn’t want to look fresh-faced and apple-cheeked,” Choudhury later added.

At the age of 22 — and with just £7.50 (about $10 USD) in her pocket — Choudhury went to an audition for the role of Mina in the 1991 film “Mississippi Masala,” which co-starred Denzel Washingston. Choudhury ended up getting the gig, which kickstarted her acting career. But her audition had a hairy start because Choudhury decided to alter her hair.

Sarita Choudhury Sees Herself as More of a Carrie Than a Seema

Sarita Choudhury has spent the last three decades of her life acting in numerous films (including Mississippi Masala opposite Denzel Washington and The Green Knight with Dev Patel) and television shows like Homeland and Little Fires Everywhere, as well as countless theater productions. And yet, when she signed onto Zoom in 2020 to audition for the role of Seema Patel in the Sex and the City reboot, And Just Like That, Choudhury was filled with nerves. “I’d read the script and I was thinking, I never really played a character like Seema, someone with no apology,” she tells me (on another Zoom call) from her home in New York City. “I had to bring it for the audition or not audition at all. You can’t really do Seema halfway.”

Choudhury nails the essence of the character, both in this neat statement and in her portrayal on AJLT. Seema, a high-powered New York City realtor who strikes up a friendship with Carrie after selling her apartment, is one of a slew of characters of color that have been inserted in

A recent episode of “And Just Like That…” featured a tableau instantly familiar to fans of “Sex and the City”: Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte sitting around a cafe table trading pithy one-liners about their personal lives over brunch.

One thing, however, was Earth-shatteringly different: The women were joined, for the first time, by Seema Patel, the glamorous real estate agent played by Sarita Choudhury in the HBO Max revival series.

The significance of the moment was not lost on Choudhury: “I saw it in the script and I was like, ‘What? I’m at the table?!’” the actor said via Zoom from her home in downtown Manhattan.

One of four new characters of color introduced in the reboot, which attempts to tell a more inclusive story than the original series, Seema is fabulous and successful with a saucy wit — a suitable successor to Sama
