Bismarck du Plessis (wym. [ˈbɪsmarkdypləˈsi], ur. 22 maja 1984 w Bethlehem[1][2]) – południowoafrykańskirugbysta występujący na pozycji młynarza. Z reprezentacją RPA zdobywca pucharu świata. Młodszy brat Jannie’ego, który także jest reprezentantem kraju w rugby.
Kariera klubowa
[edytuj | edytuj kod]Du Plessis urodził się w prowincji Wolne Państwo Orania, tam też uczęszczał do renomowanego Grey College[1][4] w Bloemfontein i rozpoczął treningi rugby. W 2003 roku znalazł się w składzie miejscowych Free State Cheetahs na Vodacom Cup, krajowe rozgrywki drugiego szczebla[1], jednak nie znalazł się w kadrze na żadne spotkanie[5]. Przez dwa kolejne sezony (2003 i 2004) bronił barw Wolnego Państwa w młodzieżowej (do lat 20) wersji turnieju Currie Cup[1].
Przed sezonem 2005 Bismarck przeniósł się do Durbanu i zespołu Natal Sharks (w rozgrywkach krajowych) oraz jego odpowiednika – Sharks (liga Super 12). Dodatkowo, wraz z innymi młodymi zawodnikami, trafił do filialnej drużyny Natal Wildebeest, która występowała na drugim szczeblu rozgry

Bismarck Du Plessis
Bismarck Wilhelm du Plessis, born on 22 May 1984, is a South African professional rugby union player. He currently plays for the Bulls in the United Rugby Championship and for the Blue Bulls in the Currie Cup. Du Plessis began his career with the Free State Cheetahs in 2003 before joining the Sharks in 2005, where he spent the majority of his career. He later moved to Montpellier in the French Top 14.
Du Plessis is widely regarded as one of the best hookers of his time, excelling both at the club and international level. He emerged from the shadow of John Smit to establish himself as a dominant force for the Sharks and the Springboks. Known for his strength, power, and impressive ball skills, he is highly respected as a tight forward and poses a threat at the breakdown.

After spending many years in the shadow of John Smit, Bismarck du Plessis is now enjoying his time in the spotlight.
Du Plessis made his Super 12 (now Super 14) debut for the Sharks in 2005 but saw his first-team opportunities limited by the presence of Smit. However, the man from Bethlehem in the Free State impressed in his role as an understudy and earned his first Springbok cap in coming on as a replacement in the Tri-Nations defeat by Australia in Sydney in July, 2007.
It was a historic occasion for the du Plessis family as Bismarck's older brother Jannie also made his debut in the same game.
The younger du Plessis started at hooker against New Zealand the following weekend but he was left out of South Africa boss Jake White's squad for the World Cup later in the year.
However, an injury to Pierre Spies resulted in a late call-up for du Plessis and he made the bench for five of the Springboks' games en route to lifting the Webb Ellis Cup.
